“Since he’s really underrated in Liverpool, this would be a good chance to get such an amazing player that would revitalize your midfield” – Ian Wright has urged Ruben Amorim to seize the opportunity to sign Liverpool’s powerhouse midfielder for Manchester United, highlighting the player’s underrated status at Anfield. Described as a ‘monster’ for his physicality and dominance, the transfer could rejuvenate United’s midfield and significantly influence the Premier League.
Manchester United, embarking on a new era under Ruben Amorim's guidance, has been urged by former player Dwight Yorke to consider Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez as an excellent first addition to the squad.
Manchester United is set to begin a new chapter under Ruben Amorim’s leadership, with former player Dwight Yorke suggesting Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez as an ideal first signing for the club.
United recently parted ways with Erik ten Hag following a dismal start to the season, earning just 11 points from nine matches. The team’s goal-scoring struggles—one of the lowest tallies in the league—have intensified speculation about the need for a fresh attacking option in the January transfer window.
Current forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have managed only two Premier League goals between them, raising concerns over the club’s offensive capabilities. Amorim is expected to officially take charge during the November international break, with his first match scheduled against Ipswich Town.
Yorke has urged the club to make a bold move for Nunez, believing the Uruguayan striker could thrive at Old Trafford with consistent playing time.
“If I could pick a number nine for United, I’d go for Darwin Nunez from Liverpool,” Yorke stated in an interview. “People may question this due to his recent inconsistency, but I see massive potential. He has the physicality, aggression, and raw ability that United needs to dominate the Premier League.”
Nunez, who joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 for £85 million, has displayed flashes of brilliance despite struggling with consistency. The 25-year-old has scored just once in the Premier League this season, but Yorke believes he could flourish with regular opportunities to lead the attack.
“United needs a commanding striker, and Nunez fits the bill,” Yorke added. “While players like Ollie Watkins are impressive, I think Nunez has the edge in physicality and potential. Given a proper run of games, he could become one of the league’s top forwards.”
Although Nunez remains under contract with Liverpool until 2028, reports suggest the Reds might explore signing a new striker by 2025, which could pave the way for a potential transfer.
Meanwhile, Amorim is reportedly planning a squad overhaul, with four United players expected to be listed for transfer in January. Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Casemiro, and Antony are rumored to be part of the exit strategy as the club aims to reduce its wage bill and create room for reinforcements.
Both Casemiro and Antony, who earn £350,000 and £200,000 per week respectively, could be available for offers in the region of £25 million. However, Eriksen and Lindelof’s future suitors may wait until their contracts expire next summer to avoid paying transfer fees.
