Former referee Keith Hackett has criticized Stuart Attwell’s decision not to issue a second yellow card to Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall during the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg. Bergvall, already booked, escaped punishment for a late challenge on Kostas Tsimikas in the 84th minute, only to score the winning goal moments later.
Hackett acknowledged Liverpool’s frustration, particularly since Tsimikas was forced to leave the pitch due to treatment and was not allowed back on before Tottenham’s decisive attack. Hackett described Bergvall’s challenge as reckless and deserving of a second yellow card, leaving Liverpool with legitimate grounds for grievance.
