Liverpool faces a significant setback as rumors circulate about a potential transfer involving Trent Alexander-Arnold, who reportedly wishes to join Real Madrid. According to Spanish outlet Marca, the defender, whose contract at Anfield expires in six months, has communicated his interest in a move to the reigning Champions League and La Liga champions. This development allows him to begin negotiations with overseas clubs in January, potentially on a free transfer in the summer.

Alexander-Arnold’s situation is one of several pressing contractual concerns for Liverpool, with star forward Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk also nearing the end of their contracts. Marca suggests that Liverpool’s efforts to secure Alexander-Arnold’s renewal seem increasingly unlikely, heightening speculation about his departure. The prospect of linking up with fellow England international Jude Bellingham at Real Madrid is reportedly a significant attraction for the 25-year-old.

Real Madrid, known for leveraging free transfer opportunities as seen with Antonio Rüdiger and Kylian Mbappé, may adopt a similar approach to secure Alexander-Arnold. If completed, such a move would represent a major blow to Liverpool, particularly as they aim to maintain their lead in the Premier League over rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has remained tight-lipped on the issue, emphasizing that contract negotiations are handled internally by the club’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, and not discussed publicly. Meanwhile, the Reds’ immediate focus remains on sustaining their form as they compete for domestic and European honors.
