OKLAHOMA CITY TO HONOR NICK COLLISON WITH PERMANENT MONUMENT—WORK SET TO COMMENCE THIS FALL

The Oklahoma City Thunder are set to further enshrine the legacy of franchise icon Nick Collison by commissioning a permanent monument in his honor, celebrating the heart, hustle, and unwavering loyalty that defined his storied 15-year NBA career. Construction on the statue is scheduled to begin this fall, with its unveiling planned for early 2026 outside the Paycom Center.

Collison, known as “Mr. Thunder,” played his entire career with the franchise—beginning with the Seattle SuperSonics and transitioning with the team to Oklahoma City in 2008. A fan favorite not for flashy stats but for his selfless, team-first mentality, Collison became a symbol of consistency, grit, and quiet leadership. His No. 4 jersey was retired in 2019, making him the first player in Thunder history to receive the honor.

Thunder Chairman Clay Bennett shared in a statement: “Nick’s loyalty, professionalism, and love for this organization and community are unparalleled. This monument is more than a tribute—it’s a reminder of the culture and values Nick helped build here.”

Fans and former teammates have flooded social media with support and admiration for the move. Former teammate Kevin Durant tweeted, “Nobody deserves it more. Nick was the glue guy, the leader behind the scenes. Much respect.”

The statue, currently in the design phase, will reportedly depict Collison in one of his signature defensive stances, symbolizing the effort and intensity that became his trademark.

Longtime Thunder fans see this as more than just a statue—it’s a reflection of the city’s basketball soul. As the team looks to build a new generation of success with young stars, honoring Collison is a poignant reminder of the foundation on which it all stands.

Nick Collison may have retired from the hardwood, but his impact continues to echo—etched forever in bronze and in Thunder lore.
