Fatal Crash in Hunterdon County: Government Convoy Collides with School Bus Carrying Pupils at 145 Route 31 South, Flemington

 

FLEMINGTON, NJ — April 16, 2025 — A tragic accident occurred early Wednesday morning in Hunterdon County, when a government convoy collided with a school bus carrying children at approximately 8:05 AM near 145 Route 31 South in Flemington. Authorities have confirmed multiple injuries, including serious conditions among both students and adults on board.

 

According to preliminary reports, the government convoy, consisting of three black SUVs with tinted windows and government plates, was en route to a classified facility in the area when the lead vehicle struck the rear side of a school bus from the Readington Township School District. The impact caused the bus to spin and crash into a utility pole, trapping several students inside.

 

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene. “It was horrifying. I heard a loud crash, and when I looked over, the bus was tilted, and kids were screaming,” said Maria Santiago, a local resident who was on her way to work. “Within minutes, first responders flooded the area.”

 

Emergency services from across the county responded rapidly. At the directive of state officials, an emergency ambulance response was ordered immediately. Medical helicopters were also deployed due to the seriousness of some injuries. At least 15 students, ranging in age from 7 to 12, were taken to Hunterdon Medical Center and nearby hospitals. Three students are reported to be in critical condition. The driver of the school bus, a 58-year-old woman with over 20 years of experience, also sustained serious injuries and was airlifted for emergency treatment.

 

The convoy was reportedly traveling at high speed under special clearance, though it remains unclear whether the vehicles had active sirens or lights at the time of the incident. Two government agents were also hospitalized but are in stable condition.
