Boomer Boots Another! Oklahoma Lands 5-Star Kicker Trace Rudd in 2026 Recruiting Class

NORMAN, Okla. — The Oklahoma Sooners continue to strengthen their special teams arsenal, landing a key commitment in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Trace Rudd, a standout kicker from Overland Park, Kansas, has pledged to the Crimson and Cream, giving OU one of the nation’s most promising legs.

Listed at 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, Rudd is rated as a 5-star prospect and ranks as the No. 27 overall kicker in the 2026 class, according to Kohl’s Kicking — a premier evaluator of kicking talent nationwide. His commitment marks a significant addition to the Sooners’ future, as the coaching staff places an increasing emphasis on field position and reliability in the kicking game.

Rudd’s booming leg and consistent accuracy have already drawn national attention. He’s been praised for his smooth mechanics, mental toughness, and ability to perform in high-pressure situations — traits that align well with Oklahoma’s tradition of excellence. During camps and showcases, he’s demonstrated impressive range on field goals, regularly connecting from 50-plus yards, and has shown solid potential as a kickoff specialist as well.

“OU just felt like home,” Rudd said after announcing his commitment. “The facilities, the culture, and the chance to develop under an elite staff made it an easy decision.”

Head coach Brent Venables and special teams coordinator Jay Nunez have been aggressive in identifying and securing top-tier special teams talent, and Rudd’s early pledge reflects that forward-thinking approach. With the Sooners soon transitioning into the SEC full-time, reliable special teams play will be crucial in tight, physical games.

Rudd becomes one of the early foundational pieces in Oklahoma’s 2026 class, which is already drawing attention for its national reach and positional balance.

With Trace Rudd on board, the Sooners just kicked their future up a notch.
