Steelers Award Head Coach Mike Tomlin a 3-Year Contract Extension

PITTSBURGH — In a move that reinforces their unwavering confidence in leadership and continuity, the Pittsburgh Steelers have officially signed head coach Mike Tomlin to a three-year contract extension that will keep him at the helm through the 2027 NFL season.

The announcement came Monday morning, with Steelers President Art Rooney II praising Tomlin’s long-standing contributions to the franchise. “Mike Tomlin’s leadership and commitment to excellence have been the cornerstone of our success for nearly two decades,” Rooney said. “We are excited to have him continue leading our team into the future.”

Tomlin, 52, enters his 18th season as head coach of the Steelers, having never posted a losing record — a rare feat in the NFL. Since taking over in 2007, he has led the team to 10 playoff appearances, seven AFC North titles, and a Super Bowl XLIII championship.

“I am appreciative of this contract extension and thankful for the Rooney family and the entire Steelers organization,” Tomlin said in a team statement. “I remain energized and committed to chasing greatness and bringing a championship back to Pittsburgh.”

Despite recent playoff shortcomings, Tomlin’s consistent regular-season performance and respected locker room leadership have kept him among the league’s most trusted coaches. The Steelers finished the 2024 season with a 10-7 record but fell short in the AFC Wild Card round.

The extension ends speculation about Tomlin’s future with the team and silences offseason rumors of retirement or front-office shifts. With new talent developing and a young roster led by rising stars, the Steelers are banking on stability to fuel their Super Bowl ambitions.

Tomlin ranks among the league’s longest-tenured coaches, trailing only New England’s Bill Belichick in years served with one franchise before Belichick’s recent departure.

Pittsburgh fans, known for their loyalty, have largely applauded the move, confident that Tomlin remains the right man to steer the franchise forward.
