🏀 BREAKING: UNC’s RJ Davis Wins Prestigious 2025 Jerry West Award — Crowned Nation’s Top Shooting Guard by Naismith Hall of Fame 🏆
Chapel Hill, NC — June 19, 2025
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has officially named University of North Carolina senior RJ Davis the winner of the 2025 Jerry West Award, recognizing him as the nation’s top shooting guard in men’s college basketball. This prestigious honor places Davis among the elite, cementing his legacy in Tar Heel and NCAA basketball history.
Davis, a 6’0″ guard from White Plains, New York, led the Tar Heels with a brilliant senior campaign marked by efficiency, leadership, and clutch performances. He averaged 21.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, while shooting 45.6% from the field, 41.2% from beyond the arc, and 90.1% from the free-throw line—an ultra-rare 50/40/90 chase that came just shy of completion.
Known for his poise, killer crossover, and ability to shine under pressure, Davis was a cornerstone for a North Carolina team that surged back into national title contention this season. His performances in key ACC matchups, including a 34-point outburst against Duke and multiple late-game heroics, solidified his candidacy for the award.
The Jerry West Award, established in 2015, is given annually to the top shooting guard in Division I men’s basketball, named in honor of Hall of Famer and NBA icon Jerry West. Davis joins an elite group of past recipients, including the likes of Jaylen Brown, Malik Monk, RJ Barrett, and Johnny Juzang.
In a statement from Springfield, Massachusetts, Naismith Hall officials praised Davis for his leadership and consistent excellence. “RJ Davis exemplifies everything the Jerry West Award represents—grit, skill, composure, and a true love for the game,” the committee noted. “He has carried himself with class on and off the court, and we are proud to honor him.”
UNC head coach Hubert Davis, who recently submitted his resignation citing personal reasons, praised RJ’s contribution: “RJ is a once-in-a-generation player and leader. He gave everything to this program, and this honor is a reflection of his commitment.”
RJ Davis responded to the news with heartfelt gratitude: “It’s a blessing beyond words. I’ve dreamed of moments like this since I was a kid. This is for my teammates, my family, Tar Heel Nation—this one’s for all of us.”
As Davis prepares for the 2025 NBA Draft, his Jerry West Award win boosts his stock as one of the most complete and mature guards in the nation.
Tar Heel Nation, take a bow—your sharpshooter just made history.
