Fabrizio Romano provides significant news regarding Manchester United’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen. The renowned football journalist revealed key updates about the club’s interest in the Napoli striker, highlighting potential transfer developments. Romano’s insights have sparked discussions among fans about the possibility of Osimhen joining Manchester United.
Fabrizio Romano has clarified that Manchester United are not currently engaged in formal negotiations to secure Napoli striker Victor Osimhen during the January transfer window, despite speculation linking the 25-year-old to the Red Devils for a potential move in early 2025. Romano shared this insight through his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter.
Currently on loan at Galatasaray, Osimhen’s situation remains relatively quiet. According to Romano, any club wishing to sign him in January would need to activate the release clause in his Napoli contract and commit to a significant salary of approximately €11 million per season (£9.1 million). Such a deal would present significant financial challenges.
The striker’s loan agreement with Galatasaray includes a mid-season break clause, further fueling speculation about his future. Reports have linked Osimhen with a move away from Turkey, with Manchester United emerging as a frequently mentioned potential destination. The Red Devils are reportedly seeking a striker for 2025, possibly as part of a plan to replace Marcus Rashford, whose departure could provide the funds needed for a high-profile signing.
Romano emphasized in his newsletter that a mid-season exit for Osimhen would be complex, given the release clause and salary demands. He stated:
“I’m not aware of concrete talks taking place, despite links with Man United. The situation remains quiet at the moment; the only way to change it is triggering the clause into his Napoli contract (he’s on loan at Galatasaray) and also reaching an agreement on salary close to €11m net per season. Not an easy one.”
Osimhen has been in exceptional form for Galatasaray this season, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in just 15 matches across all competitions. This includes five goal involvements in four Europa League games, underscoring his impact on the pitch.
The Nigerian international’s relationship with Napoli has grown strained, particularly after being excluded from first-team training by manager Antonio Conte during the summer. Despite his contract with the Italian club running until June 2026, his future there appears uncertain.
During his tenure at Napoli, Osimhen has been a prolific contributor, scoring 76 goals and registering 18 assists in 133 appearances. His remarkable performance places him 13th on the club’s all-time top scorers list. However, whether he will remain in Europe or make a highly anticipated move to Manchester United remains to be seen, as the financial and contractual complexities surrounding a potential transfer persist.
