Forget Osimhen: Chelsea could sign a £67m talisman who's like Haaland

Nicolas Jackson has been a standout performer this season, registering an impressive tally of nine league goals. However, despite his consistent contributions, the club’s leadership remains focused on bolstering their attacking options.

Victor Osimhen has once again emerged as a potential target, with discussions of a January transfer reigniting following a failed attempt to secure his signature during the summer window.

Currently on loan at Galatasaray in Turkey, the Nigerian forward’s contract includes an exit clause that could pave the way for a permanent transfer should an interested club activate it. Osimhen’s quality and presence in the attacking third would undoubtedly strengthen the team, but it might be more prudent for Maresca to shift his attention away from the Napoli star and instead prioritize a player who has truly shone during the 2024/25 campaign.

Chelsea’s Potential Move for £67m Forward

One name that has consistently been linked with Chelsea is Dušan Vlahović. The Serbian striker has been in sensational form for Juventus, making him a logical target for the Blues. Since the start of the 2024/25 season, Vlahović has found the back of the net 12 times in 21 appearances across all competitions, including four goals in the Champions League—one notably scored against Manchester City earlier this month.

At just 24 years old, Vlahović was previously identified as a more budget-friendly alternative to Alexander Isak, with Juventus reportedly seeking €75m (£67m) for their star forward. Given his outstanding performances in recent months, Vlahović could provide Maresca’s side with the firepower they need to sustain their unexpected push for the Premier League title.

Adding Vlahović to Chelsea’s roster would be an impressive feat, particularly given his similarities to another dominant striker who has taken England’s top division by storm.

Why Vlahović Could Replicate Erling Haaland’s Impact

Erling Haaland has been a nightmare for Premier League defenses since joining Manchester City in the summer of 2022, playing a pivotal role in their trophy-laden campaigns. With 108 goals in 122 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, Haaland has already cemented his place as one of the Premier League’s most prolific forwards.

During his debut season, Haaland broke the record for the most goals scored in a 38-game season, netting 36 times and helping City secure the treble. While his recent form has seen a slight dip with three consecutive goalless matches, he still boasts 13 league goals in 17 appearances this season, second only to Mohamed Salah.

In comparison, Vlahović has drawn significant praise for his own attacking prowess. According to FBref, his playing style and contributions align closely with Haaland’s, highlighting his potential to bring a similar level of impact to Chelsea. While his combined goals and assists might not yet match Haaland’s, Vlahović surpasses him in progressive passes and carries per 90 minutes—qualities that perfectly complement Maresca’s possession-oriented tactics.

Journalist Ollie Spencer has described Vlahović as “phenomenal,” and his performances this season suggest he could be a transformative addition to Chelsea’s lineup, bringing both technical skill and clinical finishing to the forefront of their title challenge.
