Four-Star Guard Dorian Jones Requests Release from Ohio State, Reopens Recruitment
COLUMBUS, Ohio — In a surprising development on the college basketball recruiting trail, four-star guard Dorian Jones has officially requested a release from his National Letter of Intent to Ohio State and will reopen his recruitment, multiple sources confirmed Wednesday.
Jones, a 6-foot-4 combo guard from Charlotte, North Carolina, was part of the Buckeyes’ 2024 recruiting class and ranked among the top 100 prospects nationally according to multiple recruiting services. Known for his explosive first step, court vision, and two-way potential, Jones was expected to bring immediate impact to the Ohio State backcourt.
His decision comes as a major shakeup for Ohio State, which has undergone significant roster changes in recent months, including the hiring of new head coach Jake Diebler. While Diebler and his staff were hopeful to retain the talented incoming freshman, Jones has opted to explore other opportunities, citing a desire to reassess his fit and future in the program.
“After careful consideration with my family and those close to me, I have decided to request a release from my NLI to Ohio State,” Jones said in a statement posted to social media. “This was not an easy decision, but I believe it’s the best step for my growth as a player and person. I remain grateful to the Ohio State staff and fans for their support throughout the process.”
Jones will now become one of the most sought-after uncommitted guards on the market, and several programs are expected to re-engage with him. Schools such as North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, and Louisville had previously shown interest prior to his Ohio State commitment and may now reenter the picture.
Ohio State, meanwhile, will look to pivot quickly to fill the void left by Jones’ departure, as they continue to retool their roster ahead of the 2024–25 season.
