HISTORICAL RETURN: Phoenix Suns to Erect Kevin Durant Statue at PHX Arena
PHOENIX — In a monumental tribute to one of the greatest players in NBA history, the Phoenix Suns have announced plans to unveil a statue honoring Kevin Durant outside the Footprint Center, marking a historical return to celebrate his lasting legacy with the franchise. The statue, which is set to be revealed later this year, will forever commemorate Durant’s contributions to the team and the sport.
Durant, a 14-time NBA All-Star, two-time NBA Champion, and one of the most prolific scorers in league history, joined the Suns during the 2022-23 season in a blockbuster trade. Though his tenure with Phoenix was relatively short in comparison to his time with other teams, Durant’s presence reinvigorated the Suns organization and galvanized a new era of championship aspirations.

The statue, which is being sculpted by world-renowned artist Omri Amrany, is expected to depict Durant in his signature jump shot motion, capturing the elegance and dominance that defined his game. Positioned prominently at the main entrance of the arena, the monument will stand as a beacon for fans and a tribute to Durant’s historical significance in Phoenix.
Durant expressed deep gratitude for the honor, calling it “humbling and surreal.”
“I’ve played in some incredible cities, but Phoenix gave me something special—a chance to lead, to inspire, and to leave a legacy,” Durant said during a special press conference on Saturday. “This statue isn’t just about me. It’s about the fans, the teammates, and everyone who believed in what we could build here.”
While Durant’s championship rings were earned with Golden State, his influence in Phoenix was profound. He elevated the franchise back into serious contention, mentoring younger stars like Devin Booker while pushing the team into multiple deep playoff runs. Off the court, Durant was active in community outreach, launching several educational initiatives and funding youth sports programs in Arizona.
The Suns’ decision to honor Durant marks only the second statue in franchise history—the first being for Charles Barkley, another transcendent figure who elevated the team during the 1990s.

The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for November 2025, with many former teammates, coaches, and NBA luminaries expected to attend. The event is set to coincide with the Suns’ season opener, in what the organization is calling “Legends Night.”
