Lincoln, NE — April 15, 2025 — In a heartfelt and unexpected move, Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Dylan Raiola has announced a personal investment of $3.3 million to convert a historic property in downtown Lincoln into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless youth. The announcement came during a press conference this morning, where the rising football star was visibly emotional while sharing the motivation behind his decision.

 

Raiola, widely considered one of the most promising young athletes in college football, said the idea came after visiting a local outreach center earlier this year. “I saw kids—some not much younger than me—struggling just to survive the night,” Raiola said. “It broke me. I knew I had to do something more than just talk about change.”

 

The shelter, which will be named “The Beacon House,” is set to provide housing, education assistance, mental health support, and job readiness programs for homeless youth ages 14 to 21. The facility will have 50 beds, a full-time staff of counselors and social workers, and a dedicated education wing in partnership with the University of Nebraska.

 

Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird praised Raiola’s initiative, calling it “a shining example of how young leaders can use their platform for real change.” Local organizations, including Lincoln Youth Outreach and the Nebraska Coalition for Homeless Youth, have already pledged support.

 

Raiola emphasized that this project is personal and long-term. “Football is a blessing, but purpose is what drives me,” he said. “If even one kid finds a safe place to rebuild their life because of this, it’s worth it.”
