Rayan Cherki has not dismissed the possibility of leaving Lyon in the near future, as numerous Premier League clubs have reportedly expressed interest in the young talent.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been a standout performer for the French club in recent years. Since making his debut in 2019, Cherki has contributed 22 goals and 31 assists in 157 matches across all competitions, showcasing his attacking flair and technical ability.

Arne Slot praised a “remarkable” Liverpool player who recorded a 96% pass completion rate and won 100% of aerial duels against Fulham, highlighting the high standards of Premier League players Cherki could compete with.

Although Cherki extended his contract by a year in September, tying him to Lyon until June 2026, the club is grappling with significant financial challenges. Despite currently occupying fifth place in Ligue 1, Lyon faces the risk of relegation if they fail to resolve their financial issues.

With a market valuation of €30 million, Cherki stands out as Lyon’s most valuable and marketable player. Selling him could be crucial in alleviating the club’s financial struggles. Premier League teams such as Liverpool, Arsenal, West Ham, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace have all been linked to the French international, setting the stage for an intense competition for his signature.

While Lyon supporters are eager to retain their prized playmaker, the club’s financial predicament might force them to part ways with him, especially given the level of interest. A potential transfer fee for Cherki could significantly bolster Lyon’s chances of maintaining their top-flight status.

Cherki’s recent comments have further fueled speculation. Speaking after Lyon’s 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League, he remarked, “We’ll see at the end of the season if I’m still here or not.” His statement is likely to stir mixed feelings among Lyon fans but will undoubtedly encourage Premier League clubs to intensify their pursuit.

French publication L’Équipe has even suggested that Cherki might leave as early as the January transfer window, as Lyon urgently seeks funds to stabilize their financial situation and avoid relegation.
