In a major recruiting shakeup, four-star offensive tackle Kelvin Obot has officially decommitted from the USC Trojans, marking the end of weeks of growing speculation and anticipation surrounding his recruitment. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound lineman, ranked among the top offensive tackles in the 2025 class, made his decision public via social media on Wednesday evening, sending shockwaves through the college football landscape.
Obot, a native of Houston, Texas, initially pledged to USC in late January, citing the program’s storied history, offensive line development, and Southern California lifestyle as key draws. However, insiders suggest that a mix of homesickness, shifting priorities, and increased interest from other national programs played a role in his change of heart.
“After a lot of thought, prayer, and discussion with my family, I have decided to reopen my recruitment,” Obot posted. “I want to thank USC for believing in me, but I believe it’s best I find the place that truly feels like home.”
Sources close to Obot’s camp say his decommitment didn’t come as a complete surprise. Over the past month, Obot took several unofficial visits, including to Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU.
