BULLDOGS STUN NRL BY SECURING DAVID FIFITA ON $2 MILLION DEAL

In a move that has rocked the NRL landscape, the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have sensationally secured powerhouse forward David Fifita on a massive $2 million deal, sending shockwaves through the rugby league world.

The blockbuster signing was confirmed on Tuesday morning, with the Bulldogs announcing that Fifita had inked a two-year deal worth a reported $2 million, starting in 2025. The 24-year-old Queensland State of Origin star had previously re-committed to the Gold Coast Titans just weeks ago, but a dramatic backflip saw him tear up that contract in favour of joining Cameron Ciraldo’s revitalised Bulldogs outfit.

The high-profile coup is being hailed as one of the most significant signings in recent club history. Fifita’s arrival is expected to bolster the Bulldogs’ forward pack and add much-needed strike power as the club eyes a return to finals contention after several lean years.

Fifita, who made his NRL debut with the Brisbane Broncos in 2018 before moving to the Titans on a then-record $3.5 million deal in 2020, has established himself as one of the most damaging back-rowers in the game. Known for his explosive runs, tackle-breaking ability, and try-scoring prowess, the 107kg wrecking ball brings X-factor that few in the league can match.

“David is a game-changer,” Bulldogs football general manager Phil Gould said in a statement. “He’s one of the most dynamic forwards in rugby league, and his presence will bring a new level of intimidation and impact to our pack. We’re absolutely thrilled to have him on board.”

Sources close to the Bulldogs revealed that the club had been working quietly behind the scenes for weeks to lure Fifita, despite public belief that his future was secure at the Titans. The move follows a clause in Fifita’s contract allowing him to back out of his Titans deal if key personnel — including coach Des Hasler — were to change.

While Hasler remains in charge on the Gold Coast, it’s understood that Fifita had growing concerns about the club’s direction and felt the Bulldogs offered a clearer long-term vision.

The Titans, meanwhile, expressed disappointment at losing their marquee man. “David is a tremendous talent and we thank him for his contribution to the club,” said Titans CEO Steve Mitchell. “While this outcome is not what we hoped, we wish David the very best in his next chapter.”

The Bulldogs have now added Fifita to an impressive roster overhaul that already includes Viliame Kikau, Stephen Crichton, Reed Mahoney, and Matt Burton. With Ciraldo entering his third year at the helm in 2025, fans are hopeful the club can finally turn the corner.

League legends and pundits were quick to react to the signing. “It’s a huge move,” said former NSW coach Laurie Daley. “Fifita can be the piece that takes the Bulldogs to the next level if they can harness his full potential.”

Fifita’s management declined to comment on the details of the switch but confirmed that the star forward is excited about his new challenge. He is expected to join pre-season training in November following representative duties.

As one of the most high-profile player moves in recent memory, the signing underlines the Bulldogs’ intent to reestablish themselves as an NRL powerhouse — and with David Fifita in blue and white, that mission just got a lot more serious.
