Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Tyrell Malacia will be in the starting lineup for today’s Europa League encounter against Viktoria Plzen at the Doosan Arena. This announcement comes as the Red Devils aim to recover from their recent 3-2 Premier League loss to Nottingham Forest.

During the pre-match press conference, Malacia joined Amorim, where the Portuguese manager disclosed his decision to start the 25-year-old defender. This opportunity marks a significant moment for Malacia, who has endured a challenging journey back to fitness following a grueling 17-month absence caused by multiple knee surgeries.

Malacia’s return to competitive action hasn’t been without hurdles. In his comeback match against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League, he struggled defensively, conceding a goal due to an error. However, he showed some improvement in the first half against Arsenal earlier this month before being substituted at halftime.

Despite these mixed performances, Malacia has received praise from former manager Erik ten Hag, who described him as “amazing.” Under Amorim’s management, Malacia now has a crucial opportunity to prove his value, especially with Diogo Dalot’s inconsistency in the wing-back position creating openings for others to step up.

Known for his defensive reliability, Malacia still needs to demonstrate his attacking prowess. During his time at Feyenoord, he excelled with forward runs and offensive contributions, but he has yet to replicate that form in Manchester United colors.

Tonight’s game in Czechia offers Malacia the chance to make a lasting impression on Amorim and secure his place in the squad. As the team looks to bounce back from recent setbacks, Malacia’s performance could play a key role in shaping their Europa League journey.
