HISTORICAL RETURN: Denver Nuggets to Elect Nikola Jokić Statue to Be Unveiled at Ball Arena

DENVER — A legendary figure in the Denver Nuggets’ history will be forever immortalized, as a statue honoring the iconic center Nikola Jokić is set to be unveiled at Ball Arena. In a move that cements his legacy as one of the greatest players to ever wear a Nuggets jersey, the organization announced plans for a permanent bronze sculpture of the Serbian superstar, scheduled for unveiling later this year.

Jokić, a two-time NBA MVP and the cornerstone of Denver’s first NBA championship in 2023, has become a symbol of excellence, consistency, and team-first basketball. Known for his extraordinary passing ability, court vision, and unselfish play, Jokić redefined the center position and elevated the Nuggets to perennial contender status during his tenure.

The statue will be placed outside Ball Arena’s main entrance, joining the pantheon of iconic sports figures across the NBA. Sculpted by renowned artist Omri Amrany, who has previously crafted likenesses of Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, and other legends, the Jokić statue is expected to capture his signature one-handed pass — a tribute to his unmatched vision and unique style of play.

“This is a historic moment not just for the Nuggets but for the city of Denver,” said Nuggets Governor Josh Kroenke. “Nikola Jokić has given this franchise everything — leadership, loyalty, and a championship. This statue is a thank you to the man who changed everything.”

Jokić, who was selected 41st overall in the 2014 NBA Draft, is widely regarded as the biggest draft steal in league history. Since entering the league, he has rewritten the Nuggets’ record books, becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in triple-doubles and ranking among the top scorers, rebounders, and assist leaders.

Fans and former teammates are expected to attend the unveiling ceremony, which will take place in conjunction with a special home game tribute. The Nuggets organization will also host a week-long celebration in Jokić’s honor, featuring community events, panel discussions, and fan activities.

Though Jokić remains active in the league, the statue’s announcement is a reflection of his generational impact and the deep connection he has built with Denver fans and the broader basketball world.

“This isn’t just about basketball,” said head coach Michael Malone. “It’s about legacy. It’s about what Nikola has meant to all of us — and what he’ll mean for generations to come.”

For Denver, the unveiling marks not just a tribute, but a celebration of a transformative era — led by a once-in-a-lifetime talent.
