Elon Musk Slams Tesla Boycotters as ‘Unpatriotic’ After Reported Snub by New York Mets

Elon Musk has intensified his criticism of the ongoing boycott against Tesla, labeling those participating as “unpatriotic.” This statement follows reports that the New York Mets have declined a potential partnership with Tesla, a move seen as part of a broader backlash against Musk’s political affiliations and actions.

The boycott, known as “Tesla Takedown,” emerged in early 2025 in response to Musk’s role in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Protesters argue that Musk’s involvement has led to significant federal workforce reductions and the termination of numerous aid contracts. Demonstrations have been widespread, with notable incidents such as the arrest of nine individuals during a protest at a New York City Tesla dealership in March .

In defense of Musk, President Donald Trump has publicly condemned the boycott, describing it as “illegal” and orchestrated by “Radical Left Lunatics.” He announced plans to purchase a new Tesla vehicle to show solidarity with Musk, whom he praised as “a truly great American” . Trump further stated that any violence against Tesla showrooms would be classified as domestic terrorism.

The boycott has had tangible effects on Tesla’s performance. The company has experienced a decline in global sales, with a 45% drop in Europe reported in January. Additionally, Tesla’s stock value has suffered, and several board members, including Musk’s brother Kimbal Musk, have sold significant shares .

Public sentiment has also shifted. Some Tesla owners have expressed regret over their purchases, citing Musk’s political actions as a primary concern. High-profile figures like singer Sheryl Crow have publicly distanced themselves from the brand, with Crow sharing a video of her Tesla being towed away, stating, “There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla” .

Internationally, the backlash has been pronounced. In Germany, for instance, Tesla sales dropped by 76.3% in February compared to the previous year. Activists have projected anti-Musk messages onto Tesla facilities and vehicles, criticizing his political stances and affiliations .

The situation underscores the complex interplay between corporate leadership, political involvement, and consumer perception. As the boycott continues, Tesla faces challenges not only in sales and stock performance but also in maintaining its brand image amidst growing public scrutiny.
