Ann Arbor, MI – May 14, 2025 — As the Michigan Wolverines prepare to defend their 2024 national championship, Head Coach Sherrone Moore is brimming with optimism and enthusiasm. In a recent press conference held at Schembechler Hall, Moore shared his excitement not just about the team’s talent, but more importantly, about the unity and relentless work ethic his players have shown during the offseason.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these guys,” Moore said with a big smile. “The way they’ve come together, supported each other, and grinded through the spring and early summer—it’s been incredible. It’s everything you want to see as a coach.”
Moore, who took over the head coaching reins after Jim Harbaugh’s departure to the NFL in early 2024, led the Wolverines to a perfect 15-0 season and their first national title since 1997. While expectations are sky-high heading into the 2025 campaign, Moore is staying grounded and focused on the values that made last season so special.
“What I’m happiest about is the chemistry. You can see it in the locker room, on the practice field, in the weight room—there’s this brotherhood that’s just grown even stronger,” Moore said. “Championships are built in the offseason, and these guys are laying the foundation.”
Players have echoed Moore’s sentiment, often praising the coach’s transparent leadership and the culture of accountability he’s nurtured. Quarterback Alex Orji, expected to be the team’s offensive leader this season, said Moore’s energy and positivity have kept spirits high even during the most grueling conditioning sessions.
“He’s just real. He tells us exactly what we need to hear, but he also believes in us like no one else,” Orji said. “That makes you want to push harder, not just for yourself, but for your brothers next to you.”
Moore also expressed excitement about the development of young talent stepping into key roles. With several NFL departures after the championship season, including star running back Donovan Edwards and defensive standout Will Johnson, there’s opportunity for new faces to emerge.
“We’ve got some guys that are hungry and ready to step up,” Moore said. “This program’s always been about the next man up. I’m excited to see how our depth plays out.”
In addition to on-field work, Moore highlighted the team’s academic achievements and community involvement. Over 85% of the roster maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the spring semester, and several players have taken part in youth football camps, local charity events, and leadership programs across Michigan.
“These young men are doing it right in every aspect of their lives,” Moore said proudly. “They represent the block M with integrity.”
As summer workouts intensify and the countdown to the season opener begins, Sherrone Moore remains super happy—and rightfully so.
