Ohio Transfer Guard AJ Brown Commits to Florida; Joins Younger Brother Isaiah on Gators Roster

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators bolstered their backcourt this week with a major addition, as former Ohio University guard AJ Brown announced his commitment to transfer to the University of Florida. The move not only brings a proven scorer to Gainesville but also reunites AJ with his younger brother, Isaiah Brown, already on the Gators’ roster.

AJ Brown, a 6-foot-4 redshirt sophomore from Orlando, Florida, had a breakout season with the Ohio Bobcats in 2024. He averaged 13.2 points per game while shooting an impressive 38.7% from three-point range. Known for his smooth shooting stroke and perimeter scoring, Brown started 28 games for the Bobcats and established himself as one of the Mid-American Conference’s most consistent offensive threats.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Brown will be expected to play an immediate role in Florida’s guard rotation. His commitment also marks a homecoming of sorts, as he returns to his home state and joins a Gators program on the rise under head coach Todd Golden.

“This was the right move for me both on and off the court,” Brown said in a statement released via social media. “I’m excited to be closer to home, to compete in the SEC, and most of all, to play alongside my little brother. We’ve dreamed about this moment for years.”

Isaiah Brown, a freshman guard for the Gators last season, appeared in 23 games, providing sparks of athleticism and potential in limited minutes. The younger Brown, standing at 6-foot-2, is expected to take on a bigger role in the coming season. The addition of his older brother AJ not only adds talent to the roster but also brings a unique chemistry that coaches hope to capitalize on.

“AJ brings a dynamic scoring ability and veteran presence that we think will elevate our backcourt right away,” head coach Todd Golden said. “Having him and Isaiah together is special. Their bond and understanding of each other’s games will translate well on the court. We’re thrilled to welcome AJ to the Gator family.”

The move continues a trend of the Gators being active in the transfer portal, targeting experienced players who can contribute immediately. AJ Brown fits that profile perfectly. In addition to his scoring, he averaged 3.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game last season, showing a well-rounded skillset and defensive tenacity.

Coming out of high school, Brown was a three-star prospect out of Orlando Christian Prep, where he led his team to multiple state championships. Despite early injuries that delayed his collegiate debut, he developed steadily at Ohio, becoming a central figure in their offense by his redshirt freshman season.

Now, he brings that experience to Florida, a program aiming to climb back into national relevance after a series of rebuilding years. With SEC competition looming, Brown will need to adapt quickly to the athleticism and pace of the conference, but his size, shooting ability, and court awareness make him a strong candidate to thrive.

The reunion of the Brown brothers also adds an emotional layer to the story. The two have never played together at the collegiate level and now have the chance to build something meaningful in Gainesville.

“It’s not often you get the chance to play with your brother at this level,” Isaiah said. “We’ve been working toward this since we were kids. I can’t wait to share the court with him in the orange and blue.”

As Florida continues to retool its roster for the 2025-26 season, the arrival of AJ Brown is a significant step forward. With a veteran scorer now in the fold and a family connection anchoring the backcourt, the Gators have added both talent and chemistry — a powerful combination as they look to make waves in the SEC.
