It would hardly come as a surprise if 29-year-old Leon Goretzka were contemplating an exit from Bayern Munich, considering his minimal involvement this season. The German international has made only nine Bundesliga appearances, with just one start, accumulating a modest 186 minutes on the field.

Manchester United’s interest in such players follows a familiar pattern. The club often targets high-profile midfielders as their performance levels decline, with Casemiro serving as a recent example of the potential pitfalls of this approach. A similar scenario unfolded when United signed Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern under Louis van Gaal. Bayern’s willingness to part ways with Schweinsteiger at the time should have raised concerns—a cautionary tale that United must consider before pursuing Goretzka.

Nonetheless, fans can anticipate changes in United’s midfield under new manager Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese coach is known for emphasizing high-energy, dynamic football, a style that may challenge aging players like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. Given these demands, the addition of fresh, younger midfielders to the squad seems inevitable as United prepares for a more intense tactical approach.
