Manchester United is reportedly close to securing their first signing under manager Ruben Amorim, with the club confident they can outmaneuver rivals Manchester City and Chelsea. This anticipated acquisition marks a key milestone for United as they look to strengthen their squad under Amorim’s leadership.
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing what could be the “first signing of the Ruben Amorim era” at Old Trafford, with confidence growing in their bid to secure Rosenborg’s teenage talent, Sverre Nypan, ahead of rivals Manchester City. Amorim’s recent appointment as Erik ten Hag’s permanent replacement has fueled considerable speculation about January transfer moves, although financial fair play (FFP) constraints may limit his budget.
Several high-profile players have been rumored as potential targets under Amorim’s leadership, including Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen, Juventus’ Danilo, Wolves’ left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, and Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala. Yet, Nypan appears to be the most likely candidate to join, with United increasingly optimistic about finalizing his transfer.
Nypan, just 17 years old, has already amassed 58 appearances with Rosenborg, contributing 12 goals and 11 assists from central midfield. United, determined to fend off competition from Manchester City, are now confident in securing the Norwegian midfielder. Reports suggest Nypan’s price could be around £10 million, potentially reaching up to £20 million with add-ons. Rosenborg has reportedly encouraged the young player to consider his next steps once their season concludes in December.
If he joins United, Nypan would compete with Manuel Ugarte for a spot in the midfield. Ugarte, who rose to prominence under Amorim at Sporting before joining PSG and then United, may become an integral part of Amorim’s tactical plans. Further signings from Sporting could follow, although Amorim recently hinted that a move for striker Viktor Gyokeres may have to wait until season’s end, given the player’s commitment to Sporting for now.
“I can’t joke about it, as leaving was difficult. I don’t want to get into trouble with this Gyokeres situation,” Amorim told TNT Sports. “This is my city, this is my country, and I’ll respect that. Viktor must stay until the season’s end, and after that, who knows where life might take him.”
