Breaking News: Thirteen Months Later — Michigan’s Moore Targets Fall Return After ACL Setback

Ann Arbor, MI — After more than a year of grueling rehab and patience, Michigan Wolverines tight end Colston Loveland Moore is setting his sights on a fall comeback following a devastating ACL injury that sidelined him for the entirety of last season.

Moore, who tore his ACL during spring practice thirteen months ago, has been slowly but steadily progressing toward full football activities. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore — no relation — announced during a press conference Monday morning that Colston Moore is “on track” for a fall return, pending final medical clearance.

“It’s been a tough road for him,” Coach Moore said. “But if anyone can come back stronger from something like this, it’s Colston. His attitude, work ethic, and commitment to his recovery have been outstanding.”

Prior to his injury, Moore was widely regarded as a rising star in Michigan’s offense. His combination of size, speed, and catching ability made him a key target for then-quarterback J.J. McCarthy. In the 2023 season, Moore racked up 512 receiving yards and five touchdowns, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors as just a sophomore.

His absence was deeply felt throughout Michigan’s 2024 campaign, especially in critical moments where a dynamic tight end could have shifted the tide. Without Moore, the Wolverines leaned heavily on younger, less experienced options, and the tight end production notably dipped.

According to sources close to the program, Moore has been participating in non-contact drills this spring and gradually increasing his workload. The expectation is that he will be fully cleared for contact by mid-August, giving him ample time to prepare for Michigan’s opening game against Texas.

“I’m feeling good — stronger than I’ve ever been,” Moore said in a brief interview with local reporters. “This whole process taught me not to take anything for granted. I’m just excited to get back on the field and help my team.”

Team medical staff remain cautiously optimistic but stress that Moore’s reintegration into full practices will be carefully managed. ACL injuries, particularly for athletes who rely heavily on explosive movement, require careful attention even after initial recovery timelines are met.

In the meantime, Moore’s return is seen as a massive boost for Michigan’s offense, which is entering a new era under first-year starter Alex Orji. A healthy Moore could serve as a critical security blanket for the young quarterback and bring much-needed versatility to Michigan’s passing game.

If all goes according to plan, Wolverine fans can expect to see Colston Moore back in maize and blue this September — thirteen months after the injury that once clouded his promising future.
