Date Announced! Emotional Netflix Documentary to Honor Canterbury Bulldogs Coaching Legend Steve Folkes

Netflix has officially announced the release date for its highly anticipated sports documentary paying tribute to the legendary Canterbury Bulldogs head coach, Steve Folkes. The emotional and powerful film, titled “Folkes: More Than a Game”, is set to premiere globally on July 20, 2025 — a date chosen to coincide with the anniversary of Folkes’ unforgettable 2004 NRL Premiership win with the Bulldogs.

The documentary is expected to offer fans an in-depth and moving look at Folkes’ extraordinary life, both on and off the field. Widely respected as one of rugby league’s toughest and most dedicated figures, Folkes’ story is one of grit, perseverance, loyalty, and love — not just for the game, but for the people around him.

Featuring never-before-seen archival footage, exclusive interviews with former players, family members, colleagues, and rival coaches, “Folkes: More Than a Game” will explore the legendary coach’s rise through the Bulldogs ranks, his role in shaping a generation of rugby league stars, and his personal battles away from the spotlight.

Netflix Australia’s Head of Originals, Tanya Clarke, described the documentary as “a heartfelt celebration of a man whose legacy continues to inspire,” adding, “Steve Folkes was more than just a coach. He was a mentor, a warrior, a friend. His impact on the game and on people’s lives can’t be overstated, and we are proud to help tell his story.”

Folkes, who passed away in 2018, spent his entire playing and coaching career deeply connected to the Bulldogs, amassing over 245 games as a player and leading the team to a premiership as head coach. His no-nonsense approach and deep love for the club earned him the unwavering respect of players and fans alike.

The documentary is already being hailed as one of the most emotionally resonant sporting tributes in recent memory. Bulldogs captain James Graham, who played under Folkes, called the project “long overdue,” saying, “There’s no one like Steve. He gave everything to us — his time, his strength, his heart. To see his story told like this… it’s emotional. It means everything.”

With anticipation building and tributes pouring in across the rugby league community, “Folkes: More Than a Game” promises to be an unmissable event for sports fans, Bulldogs supporters, and anyone moved by the story of a man who gave everything for the game he loved.

Mark your calendars — July 20, 2025. This is more than a documentary. It’s a legacy remembered.
