BREAKING: Texas Tech Red Raiders Crowned Nation’s Top Athletic Program of 2025!
LUBBOCK, Texas — June 10, 2025 — In a stunning display of all-around athletic excellence, Texas Tech University has been crowned the nation’s top overall athletic program of 2025, rewriting the collegiate sports record books in a way never before seen. With landmark achievements across multiple sports, the Red Raiders have become the only school in the country to win a national championship, reach the Final Four, make the Women’s College World Series, host a softball regional, and earn a bowl game berth—all in a single academic year.
This unprecedented run of success has sent shockwaves through the NCAA landscape, firmly planting the Red Raiders at the pinnacle of collegiate athletics.
“This is more than a banner year,” said Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt. “It’s a moment in history. Our student-athletes, coaches, and fans have built something truly special. Texas Tech is now synonymous with excellence.”
The crowning achievement came in April, when Texas Tech Men’s Basketball surged past powerhouse programs to reach the Final Four before falling in a thrilling semifinal showdown. In May, Texas Tech Softball continued the school’s momentum, not only earning a spot in the NCAA Softball Tournament, but also hosting a regional for the first time in school history, and making a historic run to the Women’s College World Series.
But the biggest moment of all came in early June, when Texas Tech Baseball captured its first-ever national championship, sweeping the final series and etching its name into the record books.
The Red Raiders’ fall was just as dominant, with Texas Tech Football clinching a bowl appearance for the third consecutive year, showcasing their resurgence under head coach Joey McGuire. The team’s win in the Alamo Bowl capped off a 10-win season—another rarity in school history.
Fans across Lubbock and beyond are celebrating what many are calling the “Year of the Raider.” The school’s success spanned men’s and women’s sports, power and Olympic sports alike, proving Texas Tech’s deep commitment to excellence at every level.
“This is sports history,” said ESPN analyst Rece Davis. “No program has ever done what Texas Tech just did. It’s dominance across the board.”
As Red Raider flags wave high across West Texas, one thing is clear—Lubbock is the new capital of college sports. And with momentum like this, the Red Raiders may not be done making history.
