Longhorns Go Big: Texas Announces $117 Million Upgrade to Softball Facilities

June 2025 | Austin, TX

In a bold move that underscores its commitment to championship-level excellence, the University of Texas at Austin has announced a massive $117 million investment to upgrade its softball facilities—cementing its position as a national powerhouse in the sport.

The university unveiled the ambitious project on Wednesday, detailing plans for a state-of-the-art stadium, player development complex, and expanded fan amenities. The new facility will replace Red & Charline McCombs Field, the Longhorns’ home since 1998, and is expected to be one of the most advanced collegiate softball stadiums in the country upon completion in 2027.

“This is more than just a stadium—it’s a statement,” said Texas Athletics Director Chris Del Conte. “We’re building a home that reflects the pride, tradition, and championship aspirations of our softball program. It’s about giving our student-athletes the resources they need to be the best and providing our fans with an elite experience.”

The new complex will feature increased seating capacity to accommodate the program’s growing fanbase, premium seating options, improved sightlines, shaded areas, and enhanced concessions. For the athletes, the upgrade includes an indoor practice facility, advanced sports performance labs, dedicated locker rooms, and recovery areas—all designed with input from Head Coach Mike White and his staff.

“This investment shows how serious Texas is about softball,” said White, who has led the Longhorns to unprecedented success, including nine consecutive Women’s College World Series appearances. “It’s a game-changer for recruiting, training, and building a culture of excellence.”

The project will be funded through a combination of private donations, athletic department revenue, and support from the Longhorn Foundation. University officials say fundraising efforts are already off to a strong start, with several major gifts secured in recent months.

Fans and alumni have long called for a facility that matches the program’s national stature. With Texas softball continuing to smash records and dominate on the field, the timing couldn’t be better.

“This is a historic moment for Texas Softball,” said senior pitcher Madison Preston. “We’ve always dreamed of a facility like this. It makes us proud to wear the burnt orange and know the university believes in us.”

Construction is set to begin in early 2026 following the 2025-26 season, with the team expected to play in a temporary location during the build.

As the Longhorns continue their march toward more titles, the message is clear: Texas isn’t just keeping up—it’s leading the way.
