REPORT: Elon Musk Wants to Rename Steelers Stadium to Tesla Field and Redesign Jerseys, in Exchange for Long-Term Sponsorship of the Team – Art Rooney II Says No, For This Reason…!

In a bold proposal that’s making waves across both the sports and tech worlds, Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly approached the Pittsburgh Steelers with an offer to rename Acrisure Stadium to “Tesla Field” and redesign the team’s iconic jerseys to reflect Tesla’s futuristic brand. In return, Musk offered a lucrative long-term sponsorship deal aimed at modernizing the franchise and aligning it with cutting-edge innovation.

According to multiple sources close to the matter, Musk’s pitch included a full stadium revamp, complete with electric charging stations, solar power enhancements, and even the integration of Tesla’s AI-driven fan experience tech. The proposal also included new uniform designs said to feature sleek black-and-silver accents, a departure from the traditional black and gold that has been synonymous with Steelers football for decades.

However, Steelers president Art Rooney II reportedly rejected the proposal outright. In a statement provided to local media, Rooney emphasized the importance of tradition, community identity, and preserving the team’s storied legacy.

“Our fans bleed black and gold,” Rooney said. “While we respect innovation, the name of our stadium and the look of our uniforms are deeply tied to the history and culture of Pittsburgh. That’s not something we’re willing to change—at any price.”

The Steelers, one of the NFL’s most historic franchises, have long emphasized loyalty to their roots, and Rooney’s response reflects that enduring philosophy. Though Musk’s offer was financially generous, sources say the team leadership felt it could erode the authenticity that defines Steelers football.

While the proposal is off the table for now, some speculate that Musk could pursue a similar partnership with another NFL franchise more open to brand transformation. For the Steelers, however, tradition remains non-negotiable.
