Lauren Putz Named Softball America Player of the Year as Four Wolverines Earn All-America Honors
Ann Arbor, Mich. – May 24, 2025 — Michigan Wolverines softball continues its legacy of excellence as senior first baseman Lauren Putz was named Softball America’s 2025 Player of the Year, capping off a historic season for the program. Putz’s recognition headlines a stellar showing for Michigan, which saw four players earn All-America honors, affirming the Wolverines’ place among the nation’s elite.
Putz, a senior from South Bend, Indiana, delivered one of the most dominant individual seasons in Michigan softball history. She led the Big Ten in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.446), home runs (21), RBIs (68), slugging percentage (.813), and on-base percentage (.525). Her consistency and power at the plate made her a nightmare for opposing pitchers throughout the 2025 season.
“Lauren’s leadership, work ethic, and competitive spirit elevated our entire team,” said head coach Bonnie Tholl. “She’s one of the most complete hitters I’ve ever coached, and her impact on and off the field has been extraordinary.”
Putz’s performance helped guide the Wolverines to a 52–10 overall record, a Big Ten regular-season title, and a deep run into the NCAA Tournament, where they reached the Super Regionals for the third consecutive year.
In addition to Putz’s national recognition, three other Wolverines earned All-America honors, reflecting the team’s depth and talent:
Lilli Walker (Pitcher) – Named to the Softball America First Team, Walker was the ace of Michigan’s rotation, posting a 27–4 record with a 1.45 ERA and 239 strikeouts in 186 innings. Her ability to dominate top-tier opponents proved critical in the Wolverines’ postseason success.
Madison Uden (Third Base) – Uden earned Second Team All-America honors after a breakout senior campaign in which she hit .389 with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs. Her defensive prowess and leadership at the hot corner were vital to Michigan’s infield stability.
Sophia Morales (Outfield) – Morales was named to the Third Team, showcasing her dynamic range and explosive speed in center field. She led the Big Ten in stolen bases (34) and added a .356 batting average to complement her defensive brilliance.
The collective success of these four standouts speaks volumes about the strength and unity of the 2025 Wolverines roster. Michigan’s coaching staff, led by Tholl in her second season as head coach, has emphasized a culture of accountability, preparation, and relentless competitiveness.
“Individual accolades are a reflection of team success,” said Tholl. “I’m proud of how our players embraced their roles and supported one another all season long. The national recognition is well-deserved.”
With the graduation of Putz and Uden, Michigan will lose two cornerstone veterans. However, the return of stars like Walker and Morales ensures that the Wolverines will remain a force in collegiate softball.
Lauren Putz’s Player of the Year honor marks the first time a Michigan softball player has received the prestigious award from Softball America, adding another chapter to the program’s storied legacy. Her achievement serves as an inspiration to future Wolverines and a reminder of the standard of excellence Michigan softball continues to uphold.
As the team looks ahead to the 2026 season, the foundation built by this year’s All-Americans sets the stage for continued dominance in the years to come.
