Breaking: University of Missouri Approves $250 Million Renovation of Memorial Stadium

COLUMBIA, Mo. — In a historic move, the University of Missouri Board of Curators has unanimously approved a $250 million transformational renovation of Memorial Stadium, the iconic home of Mizzou Football. The comprehensive project is scheduled for completion ahead of the 2026 football season, perfectly timed to coincide with the stadium’s 100th anniversary.

The renovation marks one of the most significant facility investments in the history of Missouri Athletics. Designed to elevate the fan experience, modernize infrastructure, and enhance competitive excellence, the project will usher in a new era for Memorial Stadium while preserving the tradition that has defined it for a century.

“This is more than just a renovation — it’s a reinvestment in our student-athletes, our fans, and the future of Mizzou Football,” said University of Missouri President Mun Choi. “As we approach Memorial Stadium’s 100th anniversary, this project will ensure that the facility continues to be a centerpiece of pride for our university and state.”

The renovation will include updated premium seating options, expanded concourses, improved sightlines, enhanced video and sound systems, and state-of-the-art amenities designed to enrich the game-day atmosphere. Additionally, plans call for upgraded locker rooms, training facilities, and operational areas that will support both recruiting and player development.

Athletics Director Desireé Reed-Francois emphasized the importance of aligning Memorial Stadium with the vision of sustained success for Missouri Athletics. “This project will transform our football stadium into one of the best in the country and help position Mizzou as a destination for top talent,” she said. “We’re building more than a stadium — we’re building a future.”

Funding for the project will come from a combination of private donations, partnerships, and long-term financing. No student tuition or state appropriations will be used to fund the renovation.

Opened in 1926, Memorial Stadium—also known as Faurot Field—has long been a symbol of Mizzou tradition and Tiger pride. Over the decades, it has hosted countless memorable moments, from historic upsets to thrilling homecoming victories.

The 2026 season will not only mark a century of unforgettable football in Columbia but also a bold step forward. With this renovation, Mizzou aims to provide fans with a first-class experience while giving its student-athletes the tools to compete at the highest level of college football.

Construction is expected to begin after the 2024 football season. As the university prepares to celebrate 100 years of Memorial Stadium, the future looks brighter than ever for Mizzou Football.
