The SEC Ties Record for Most Teams Advancing to Super Regionals
May 19, 2025 — The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has once again proven its dominance in college baseball, tying the NCAA record for the most teams from a single conference to advance to the Super Regionals. A total of seven SEC programs punched their tickets to the next round of the NCAA Tournament, matching a mark previously achieved only by the SEC itself in 2018 and the Pac-12 in earlier decades.
The conference’s performance in the regional round was nothing short of impressive. Powerhouse programs like LSU, Florida, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Georgia, and Vanderbilt navigated through tough competition to secure their spots in the Super Regionals. Their success highlights the depth and quality of the SEC, a league that consistently sets the standard in college baseball.
Perhaps the most dramatic of the weekend victories came from Tennessee, which rallied late in a decisive Game 7 against NC State, powered by a clutch ninth-inning home run and a shutdown performance from its bullpen. Florida, meanwhile, dominated its regional bracket from start to finish, showcasing its potent offense and pitching depth.
LSU, the defending national champions, continued their postseason tradition with commanding wins over Southern Miss and Arizona, showing they are once again serious contenders for Omaha. Arkansas overcame a surprising upset loss in their opener to storm back and win three straight elimination games, illustrating their resilience and depth.
With all seven teams now heading to the Super Regionals, the SEC has further solidified its reputation as college baseball’s premier conference. The league sent a record 11 teams to the NCAA Tournament this year, and more than half of them are now among the final 16 competing for a trip to the College World Series.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey praised the performance of the conference’s teams, saying, “This accomplishment speaks volumes about the commitment to excellence from our programs, student-athletes, and coaches. The SEC is proud to compete at the highest level, and we look forward to an exciting Super Regional round.”
The road ahead won’t be easy. Several of the SEC squads are set to face each other in the next round, including a highly anticipated matchup between Vanderbilt and Georgia, guaranteeing that at least one SEC team will advance to Omaha. Meanwhile, other matchups pit SEC teams against top seeds from other conferences, setting up what promises to be a thrilling weekend of college baseball.
With momentum on their side and a deep tradition of postseason success, the SEC’s chances of claiming another national title appear strong. If history is any indication, expect to see multiple SEC teams battling it out under the bright lights in Omaha next month.
