No.1 Player in America Commits to Texas Longhorns Over Tennessee, BYU, and Auburn
In a major recruiting coup, the Texas Longhorns have landed the nationโs No. 1 high school football player. Five-star quarterback Jalen Carter officially announced his commitment to the Longhorns on Saturday afternoon, choosing Texas over finalists Tennessee, BYU, and Auburn.
The decision came during a nationally televised announcement, where Carter, donning a burnt orange Texas cap, shared his excitement about joining the Longhorns and continuing his football journey in Austin.
โThis just felt like home,โ Carter said. โThe coaches, the culture, the fans โ everything about Texas stood out from the beginning. Iโm ready to be a part of something special.โ
Carter, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound dual-threat quarterback from Mater Dei High School in California, has been a dominant force on the field. Known for his poise in the pocket, explosive athleticism, and high football IQ, heโs been at the top of every major recruiting board for over a year. In his junior season, Carter threw for 3,700 yards and 42 touchdowns, while rushing for another 900 yards and 15 scores.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff had made Carter their top priority in the 2025 class. After months of building a relationship and hosting him on multiple visits, their persistence paid off.
โThis is a monumental commitment for our program,โ Sarkisian said. โJalen is not just an elite quarterback โ heโs a leader, a competitor, and someone who represents everything we want in a Texas Longhorn. This is a statement to the college football world.โ
Carterโs commitment is expected to create a ripple effect across the recruiting landscape, potentially influencing other top prospects to join him in Austin. His strong relationship with several high-profile recruits could lead to more big names choosing Texas in the coming months.
While Tennessee, BYU, and Auburn made strong pushes, Carter said his final decision came down to where he felt the most comfortable โ and where he could make an immediate impact.
โI respect every school that recruited me, but at Texas, I saw a vision that matched mine,โ Carter said. โI want to win a national championship, and I believe we can do that at Texas.โ
With Carter now in the fold, the Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class moves into the top 3 nationally, signaling that Texas is not only back โ but building toward something potentially historic.
