Oklahoma Softball Dominates Boston University With Impressive 8-0 Shutout Victory in Five Innings During NCAA Tournament Clash

The Oklahoma Sooners softball team showcased their championship pedigree once again on Friday afternoon, delivering a commanding 8-0 run-rule victory over Boston University in just five innings during the NCAA Tournament regional round in Norman.

The top-seeded Sooners, seeking their fourth consecutive national title, wasted no time asserting dominance. Oklahoma jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, using a combination of timely hitting, aggressive base running, and elite pitching to overwhelm the Patriot League champions.

Junior pitcher Nicole May was masterful in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing only two hits and striking out six. May’s poise and precision kept the Terriers off balance all game long, and she received plenty of support from her potent offense.

The Sooners’ bats ignited in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs to set the tone. Tiare Jennings delivered a clutch two-run single, followed by an RBI base hit from Kinzie Hansen. In the third inning, Jayda Coleman extended the lead with a towering two-run homer over the right field fence, electrifying the home crowd at Love’s Field.

With a 5-0 cushion, Oklahoma continued to pile on in the fourth. A two-RBI triple by freshman Kasidi Pickering and a sacrifice fly from Rylie Boone pushed the score to 8-0, initiating the run-rule scenario.

Defensively, the Sooners were flawless, turning two double plays and showcasing their usual defensive discipline. Boston University, despite entering the matchup with an impressive 52-5 record, struggled to generate any momentum against the relentless Oklahoma defense and pitching.

“We came out with the right mentality and executed our plan,” Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso said postgame. “Nicole was sharp, and our lineup did what it needed to do early. It’s a great start to the tournament.”

The win improves Oklahoma’s record to 51-6 on the season and marks their 19th consecutive regional victory. The Sooners will face the winner of Oregon versus Cleveland State in the regional final, with a Super Regional berth on the line.

Boston University drops to the elimination bracket and will fight to keep its season alive in a Saturday matchup.

Oklahoma’s emphatic victory serves as a reminder of why they remain the team to beat in college softball. With elite pitching, explosive offense, and experience in big moments, the Sooners look ready to continue their march toward yet another national championship.
