Kerry Carpenter Hits Grand Slam, Powers Tigers to Victory
DETROIT — Kerry Carpenter delivered a game-changing moment on Friday night, launching a grand slam—his 18th home run of the season—into the right-field stands and propelling the Detroit Tigers to a dominant 5-2 win.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth and the game tied, Carpenter stepped to the plate and crushed a 2-1 fastball over the wall, electrifying the Comerica Park crowd. The grand slam marked the 567th home run of the MLB season league-wide, adding to a power-packed year across the majors.
“He’s been clutch for us all year,” said Tigers manager A.J. Hinch. “That was a huge swing in a big moment.”
Carpenter’s slam gave Detroit a lead they wouldn’t relinquish, as the bullpen locked down the final innings to secure the win.
