Michigan Wolverines Football Fans Find Something New to Complain About Ahead of 2025 Season

Ann Arbor, MI — May 16, 2025

As the Michigan Wolverines head into the 2025 football season with high expectations and a roster stacked with talent, one thing remains constant: their fanbase continues to find new things to complain about.

It seems that no matter the level of success Michigan achieves on the field, a segment of its loyal supporters are always quick to voice grievances, often over minor issues that might seem trivial in the grand scheme of things. From recruiting decisions to uniforms, the Wolverines’ passionate fanbase always finds something to whine about.

The latest topic of contention is the team’s new “throwback” jerseys. Michigan recently unveiled a retro-inspired uniform design, paying homage to some of the school’s most iconic teams from the 1970s. While many fans were excited by the bold change, others immediately began criticizing the look, claiming the jerseys “don’t honor tradition” or “stray too far from the classic maize and blue.”

“I just don’t get why they had to mess with perfection,” one fan wrote on a popular Michigan football message board. “Our classic uniforms have been iconic for decades, and now they’re changing them just for some gimmick game. It’s ridiculous.”

This isn’t the first time the Wolverines’ apparel choices have sparked debate. In recent years, Michigan has experimented with alternative uniforms for special games, including a dark blue alternate for rivalry games. The new throwback jerseys have reignited the debate about whether such changes tarnish Michigan’s storied tradition.

As if the uniform issue weren’t enough, some fans are also taking issue with the team’s off-field decisions. Head coach Sherrone Moore, who has led the Wolverines to back-to-back Big Ten Championships, has been receiving a growing amount of criticism from certain quarters, even as Michigan continues to recruit at an elite level and win games. Despite leading Michigan to its first College Football Playoff appearance under his leadership, Moore’s handling of the quarterback position has been a point of contention.

“There’s no consistency. We’ve got all this talent, but why can’t we just pick a quarterback and stick with him?” another frustrated fan commented. “The constant rotation is making the team look indecisive, and it’s affecting the flow of the offense.”

This type of griping is all too familiar for Michigan football fans, who have witnessed multiple coaching changes and quarterback controversies over the years. From the Rich Rodriguez era to Brady Hoke’s tenure and the uncertainty under Jim Harbaugh, Michigan fans have become accustomed to the ups and downs of coaching transitions, but that hasn’t stopped them from complaining at every turn.

Adding to the sense of unrest is the perennial rivalry with Ohio State. Despite Michigan’s recent dominance over the Buckeyes, some Wolverines fans are still skeptical of the program’s ability to sustain success in the long run. A number of fans have voiced concern that Michigan has “peaked” too soon under Moore and that their team may struggle to maintain its current level of performance in future seasons.

Others are fixated on the recruiting process, lamenting Michigan’s inability to secure the commitment of certain five-star players, especially when compared to Ohio State and other perennial powerhouses like Alabama and Georgia.

“I can’t believe we lost out on some of these recruits. Ohio State is just luring them in with money and NIL deals,” one fan posted. “What happened to Michigan’s ability to recruit the best players? It feels like we’re falling behind.”

Despite the Wolverines being among the nation’s top recruiting teams in recent years, there’s always a sense that something is lacking — whether it’s a missing player or a perceived recruiting mistake that fans latch onto.

In the world of Michigan football, there’s no such thing as a perfect season in the eyes of a portion of its fanbase. With so many high expectations and a history of frustration, it seems that no matter what the Wolverines accomplish, the complaints will continue.

Ultimately, Michigan football fans are nothing if not passionate. While some of their grievances may seem small, they’re rooted in a deep love for a program that has been a college football powerhouse for over a century. As the 2025 season approaches, it’s clear that the Wolverines will continue to fight for victory on the field, but off the field, they’ll also continue to fight for the smallest details to be perfect. And with that, the endless cycle of Michigan football fandom will march on.
