Michigan Commit Bobby Kanka Returns to Ann Arbor for Spring Game Visit

Ann Arbor, Mich. — May 16, 2025

Four-star defensive lineman Bobby Kanka, one of Michigan’s most vocal 2025 commits, made his return to Ann Arbor this past weekend to take in the Wolverines’ annual spring game. The standout from Howell (Mich.) High School continues to show his dedication to the Maize and Blue, giving Michigan fans and coaches even more reason to feel confident about his future in Ann Arbor.

Kanka, listed at 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, committed to Michigan in June 2023 and has remained solid ever since, often acting as a peer recruiter for the Wolverines’ 2025 class. His visit to the spring game served both as a chance to reconnect with the coaching staff and an opportunity to bond with fellow commits and top targets.

“It felt good being back in the Big House,” Kanka said following his visit. “The energy was great. Got to hang out with some of the guys, talk with Coach Elston, and just take it all in again.”

Kanka has long been seen as a foundational piece of Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class, and his return to campus helped reinforce his status as a leader in the group. While the Wolverines are still working to round out the class, Kanka’s presence has been crucial in maintaining the momentum and encouraging other top prospects to consider Michigan seriously.

“I’m always talking to guys about what we’re building here,” Kanka added. “We’re not just coming here to play—we’re coming to compete and win championships.”

During his time in Ann Arbor for the spring game, Kanka reportedly spent a lot of time with fellow commits like four-star linebacker Bobby Pitre and defensive back Chris Ewald Jr., helping to further cement the unity among the 2025 group. He was also seen interacting with several uncommitted recruits, offering insights into his Michigan experience and vision for the future of the program.

Kanka’s recruitment may be closed, but his development on the field is far from finished. As a junior at Howell, he continued to flash the motor, physicality, and versatility that made him such a highly coveted prospect. Michigan projects him as a key interior lineman who can play across the defensive front, depending on how his frame develops.

“He’s got that mix of power and quickness that we really like inside,” Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston said in a previous interview. “But what really stands out is his work ethic and leadership. He’s exactly the type of player we want representing Michigan.”

As for what’s next, Kanka says he plans to return to campus for official visits this summer and continue preparing for his senior season. While he has no plans to reopen his recruitment, schools across the Midwest continue to keep tabs on him, hoping to make a late push. So far, though, Kanka remains all-in on Michigan.

“Michigan’s home,” he said. “I’ve known that for a while now.”

With Kanka’s commitment and continued presence around the program, Michigan’s 2025 class is shaping up to be another strong group under head coach Sherrone Moore. And if his energy is any indication, the Wolverines are not just securing talent—they’re also locking in leadership for years to come.
