House Judiciary Committee Democrats Launch Investigation into Trump’s Alleged Acceptance of Plane from Qatar

May 15, 2025 – Washington, D.C. — Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee, led by Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD), have opened an investigation into former President Donald Trump following reports that he accepted the use of a private aircraft from the government of Qatar.

The probe centers on concerns that the former president may have violated federal laws or constitutional provisions, including the Foreign Emoluments Clause, by accepting valuable gifts or favors from a foreign government without congressional approval.

“Americans deserve full transparency when it comes to whether former presidents are using their political influence for personal gain — especially when it involves foreign powers,” Raskin said in a statement. “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this alleged gift and whether any laws were broken.”

According to reports, the Qatari government provided Trump with access to a private plane during a recent international trip. Committee members are seeking documentation related to the arrangement, including communications between Trump’s team and Qatari officials, financial disclosures, and travel records.

While Trump and his legal representatives have not yet publicly responded to the inquiry, his allies have dismissed the investigation as politically motivated. Still, legal analysts note that accepting such gifts from foreign governments, even post-presidency, can raise serious constitutional and ethical concerns.

The House Judiciary Democrats are expected to hold hearings in the coming weeks as part of the inquiry.

This marks the latest in a series of investigations into Trump’s post-presidency conduct, amid growing scrutiny of his financial dealings and foreign relationships.
