South Carolina vs. Winthrop: Gamecocks Gear Up for Final Midweek Showdown Before Postseason Push
The South Carolina Gamecocks concluded their midweek schedule with a dramatic 6–5 comeback victory over the Winthrop Eagles on Tuesday night at Founders Park. Trailing 5–1 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, the Gamecocks rallied with a five-run surge, highlighted by freshman Beau Hollins’ bases-clearing double, to secure the win.
With this victory, South Carolina finishes midweek play with a 13–1 record, extending their winning streak against Winthrop to 14 games. The Gamecocks now hold a 29–7 all-time series lead over the Eagles.
The game began with Winthrop’s Josh Skowronski hitting a solo home run in the second inning, followed by another solo shot from Ethan Wilson in the fifth, giving the Eagles a 2–0 lead. Skowronski added his second homer of the night in the sixth, extending the lead to 3–0.
South Carolina’s offense struggled early, managing only one run through the first seven innings. However, the eighth inning saw a shift in momentum. Kennedy Jones initiated the rally with an RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Henry Kaczmar, cutting the deficit to 5–3. Hollins then delivered a three-run double, propelling the Gamecocks to a 6–5 lead.
Pitcher Parker Marlatt closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning, earning his second save of the season.
Looking ahead, South Carolina will host No. 1 LSU in a three-game series starting Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Founders Park. The game will be televised on SEC Network.
