BREAKING NEWS: Ja Morant Invests $3.6 Million to Turn Mansion into Shelter for Homeless Youth in Tennessee

Memphis, TN — In a remarkable act of compassion and community support, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has announced a $3.6 million personal investment to convert a large residential estate into a full-service shelter for homeless youth in Tennessee. The move comes amid rising homelessness rates across the state and marks a powerful statement from one of the NBA’s most electrifying talents.

The property, a 15-bedroom, 20,000-square-foot estate located just outside of Memphis, will be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility offering safe housing, education, job training, counseling, and mental health support for youth aged 13 to 21. Morant, who has become a beloved figure in Memphis not only for his on-court performances but for his growing philanthropic efforts, said the project was inspired by his own journey and desire to give back.

“I’ve been blessed with so much, and I want to make sure the next generation knows they’re not alone, even in their darkest moments,” Morant said in a press release issued Thursday morning. “This isn’t about basketball—it’s about building hope, building futures, and building a stronger community.”

The initiative will be operated in partnership with several nonprofit organizations, including Youth Villages and the Tennessee Homeless Solutions Network, who will provide on-site services and long-term case management. Construction and remodeling are expected to begin in June, with a target opening date set for spring 2026.

Community leaders have praised Morant’s action as a game-changer for Memphis and the state at large.

“Ja Morant’s commitment is more than generous—it’s visionary,” said Memphis Mayor Paul Young. “At a time when so many young people are falling through the cracks, this shelter will provide not just a roof, but a chance to rebuild lives.”

This bold philanthropic step also comes as Morant continues to rehabilitate his image following past off-court controversies. His latest act has been widely seen as a meaningful move toward personal growth and social impact.

Morant emphasized that he hopes the shelter, which he has named “Rise House,” will serve as a model for similar efforts across the country.

“Every kid deserves a chance to rise—no matter where they come from or what they’ve been through,” he said.

As one of the NBA’s most dynamic players, Morant’s influence continues to grow—now far beyond the hardwood.
