Breaking: The Return of Former Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver Lynn Swann as Senior Coach Sparks Excitement at Acrisure Stadium

PITTSBURGH, May 3, 2025 — In a move that has electrified fans and shaken up the NFL world, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced today that Hall of Fame wide receiver Lynn Swann is returning to the team — this time as a senior coach. The announcement was made early Saturday morning and has already sparked widespread excitement at Acrisure Stadium and beyond.

Swann, who played for the Steelers from 1974 to 1982, is widely remembered for his graceful athleticism, acrobatic catches, and contributions to four Super Bowl championships during the team’s golden era under coach Chuck Noll. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001, Swann remains one of the most iconic figures in Steelers history.

At age 72, Swann returns to the franchise not as a figurehead, but as an active presence on the coaching staff, working closely with the wide receiver corps and serving in an advisory role to the head coach and offensive staff.

“This isn’t just about nostalgia,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II during a press conference held this morning at Acrisure Stadium. “Lynn Swann brings a championship mindset, unmatched experience, and a deep understanding of what it means to be a Pittsburgh Steeler. His presence will have a powerful impact on our players and our culture.”

Head coach Mike Tomlin welcomed the addition, emphasizing Swann’s leadership qualities and ability to mentor young players. “Lynn understands greatness, and he understands the grind. He’ll help raise our standards and instill the values that have made this franchise successful for decades.”

Swann, who spoke briefly to media and fans, appeared energized by the opportunity. “I’ve always said Pittsburgh is home,” he said. “To return to the team that shaped me, and to be able to contribute to its future, is an honor I don’t take lightly. I’m here to help build champions — on and off the field.”

Fans flocked to Acrisure Stadium throughout the day, some wearing vintage #88 jerseys and waving Terrible Towels in celebration. Social media lit up with tributes, highlight reels, and emotional messages welcoming Swann back to the team.

Though Swann’s coaching experience is limited, his leadership background — including a stint as athletic director at USC and a lifetime in competitive athletics and broadcasting — gives him a unique voice in the locker room.

As the Steelers prepare for the 2025 season, the return of Lynn Swann symbolizes a powerful blend of past glory and future ambition — and a city ready to rally behind a

legend once more.
