First of Two: Gators Women’s Lacrosse Wins Big 12 Championship After Dominant Performance

The Florida Gators women’s lacrosse team captured the Big 12 Championship title this weekend, delivering a commanding victory that marks the first of two potential titles this season. With a final score of 16-8 against the Denver Pioneers, the Gators showcased their strength, resilience, and hunger for more.

This win secures Florida’s sixth Big 12 championship title since joining the conference and solidifies their position as one of the most dominant forces in women’s collegiate lacrosse. The game, held at the University of Florida’s Donald R. Dizney Stadium, saw a packed crowd cheering on the home team as they delivered a performance marked by precision passing, explosive offense, and airtight defense.

Leading the charge was senior attacker Emma LoPinto, who tallied five goals and two assists, earning the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player honors. She was supported by midfielders Danielle Pavinelli and Emily Heller, who each added three goals, keeping Denver’s defense on its heels from the opening whistle. The Gators jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

“Our team played with heart, grit, and composure,” head coach Amanda O’Leary said after the game. “This championship is a testament to the hard work our players have put in all season long. But we’re not done yet — this is just the first of two goals we’ve set.”

Defensively, the Gators were anchored by goalkeeper Sarah Reznick, who recorded 10 saves and shut down several key scoring opportunities from Denver’s top attackers. Florida’s back line, led by Liz Harrison and Claire Barberich, remained unyielding, forcing turnovers and transitioning quickly into counterattacks.

This Big 12 Championship not only adds another trophy to Florida’s growing collection, but also grants the Gators an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. With the national stage now set, the team turns its focus toward chasing the ultimate prize — the NCAA Championship.

Florida enters the national tournament riding a 12-game winning streak and ranked among the top five programs in the country. With momentum on their side and a roster filled with veteran leadership and young talent, expectations are high for another deep postseason run.

“This was a great moment,” said LoPinto. “But we know the job’s not finished. We’re going to celebrate today, and tomorrow we get back to work.”

The Gators’ pursuit of a historic postseason sweep continues next week when the NCAA tournament bracket is officially revealed.
