Kur Teng Announces Commitment to Texas Tech Basketball, Decommits from Michigan State

In a major recruiting development, four-star shooting guard Kur Teng has officially committed to Texas Tech Basketball, marking a significant addition to the Red Raiders’ 2025 recruiting class. The decision comes after Teng decommitted from Michigan State, a move that sent ripples through the college basketball world.

Teng, a 6-foot-4 standout from Massachusetts, had originally pledged to Michigan State in April 2023. Considered one of the top perimeter scorers in the nation, his combination of shooting, athleticism, and defensive upside made him a prized recruit for Tom Izzo’s program. However, after over a year of being verbally committed, Teng reopened his recruitment earlier this month, ultimately shifting his allegiance to Texas Tech.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from Michigan State and commit to Texas Tech University,” Teng announced via social media. “I’m thankful to Coach Izzo and the Spartan community for their belief in me. This was not an easy decision, but I believe Texas Tech is the best place for me to grow on and off the court.”

The move is a massive win for Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland, who has quickly made an impact on the recruiting trail. Securing Teng gives the Red Raiders a dynamic offensive weapon who can stretch defenses with his shooting range while contributing immediately on both ends of the floor.

Teng is ranked among the top 75 players nationally in the 2025 class, and his stock has continued to rise thanks to strong showings in both high school and AAU competition. Known for his high motor and competitiveness, he fits the mold of players McCasland has historically thrived with.

Texas Tech fans reacted with enthusiasm across social media, excited about what Teng can bring to a program looking to return to national prominence. His commitment adds to a growing momentum for the Red Raiders, who have been aggressive in rebuilding their roster with high-upside talent.

As for Michigan State, Teng’s decommitment leaves a noticeable gap in their future backcourt plans. The Spartans will likely re-engage with other 2025 guards as they look to fill the void. Nonetheless, Izzo’s reputation and the program’s strong track record in guard development should keep them competitive on the recruiting front.

For now, the spotlight is on Lubbock, where the Red Raiders just landed a shooter with elite potential. With Teng’s commitment, Texas Tech is sending a message to the rest of the Big 12: they’re not just rebuilding β€” they’re reloading.
