Tennessee Volunteers women’s basketball enthusiasts are in for a special treat this fall as Netflix has officially announced the upcoming release of a documentary chronicling the impactful collegiate career of former Lady Vol standout Kara Lawson. The documentary, set to premiere on October 10, promises to offer a deeply personal and inspiring look into Lawson’s journey from a determined young athlete to one of the most respected figures in women’s basketball.

Kara Lawson played for the Lady Volunteers from 1999 to 2003 under the legendary coach Pat Summitt. During her time at Tennessee, Lawson quickly established herself as a key player, known for her fierce competitiveness, leadership qualities, and high basketball IQ. She helped lead the Lady Vols to three Final Four appearances and was named an All-American, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire young athletes today.

The upcoming documentary, titled “Kara: Beyond the Arc,” will delve into Lawson’s time with the Lady Vols, featuring behind-the-scenes footage, archival game clips, and interviews with former teammates, coaches, and sports journalists. Viewers can expect to gain new insights into the relentless work ethic and unwavering determination that defined Lawson’s career—not just at Tennessee, but also in her professional and coaching journeys.

Netflix executives described the film as “a tribute to the indomitable spirit of one of college basketball’s fiercest competitors.” The documentary will not only highlight Lawson’s on-court achievements, but also explore her growth off the court as a leader, mentor, and advocate for the game.

Kara Lawson went on to play in the WNBA, where she had a successful career, including winning an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 2008. She later transitioned into broadcasting and coaching, becoming the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils women’s basketball team in 2020. Her commitment to excellence and breaking barriers in the sport has earned her admiration across generations.

For Tennessee fans, the documentary offers a chance to revisit a golden era of Lady Vols basketball while celebrating one of its most beloved players. It also serves as a tribute to Pat Summitt’s coaching legacy and the enduring culture of the program.
