Grant McCasland’s Unprecedented Generosity: Texas Tech Head Coach Donates $8.4 Million Bonus and Endorsement Deal to Charities and Homeless Relief, Cementing His Legacy as a True Legend On and Off the Court

LUBBOCK, Texas — In an extraordinary act of generosity that has stunned the sports world, Texas Tech men’s basketball head coach Grant McCasland has donated the entirety of his recent $8.4 million performance bonus and endorsement earnings to various charities and homeless relief organizations across Texas and beyond.

The donation, announced Tuesday during a press conference at the United Supermarkets Arena, is being hailed as one of the most remarkable philanthropic gestures by a collegiate coach in NCAA history.

McCasland, who led the Red Raiders to a historic Final Four appearance this past season, secured the multimillion-dollar bonus as part of his contract incentives tied to team performance. In addition, he recently signed a lucrative endorsement deal with a national athletic apparel brand. Instead of cashing in on personal gains, McCasland chose to redirect the windfall toward causes close to his heart.

“This isn’t about me. It’s about using what we’ve built here at Texas Tech to serve others,” McCasland said. “There are families without homes, children without access to basic needs, and communities hurting in ways we can’t ignore. I’ve been blessed beyond measure, and it’s time to give back.”

The funds will be distributed among several organizations, including the Lubbock Homeless Consortium, Feeding Texas, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and a newly established McCasland Foundation aimed at supporting youth sports and education in underserved communities.

Texas Tech University President Lawrence Schovanec praised McCasland’s decision, calling it “a shining example of leadership, integrity, and compassion.” Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt added, “Coach McCasland is not only building champions on the court—he’s shaping lives off of it.”

Players and staff expressed awe and admiration, noting how the coach’s values extend well beyond basketball. “He’s always preached humility and service,” said senior forward Elijah Fisher. “Now he’s showing us what that really looks like.”

McCasland, who joined Texas Tech in 2023, has quickly become a fan favorite for his strong leadership, deep faith, and relentless work ethic. His actions now solidify his place not only as a coach but as a true role model.

As the Red Raiders gear up for another promising season, one thing is clear: McCasland’s legacy will be defined not just by wins and titles, but by the lives he’s touched—and the hope he’s restored.
